A friendship, a soundtrack, and a courtroom summons—how Swift landed in the middle of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s on-set feud.
Taylor Swift is facing an unexpected twist—no, not in a new album, but in a real-life courtroom drama that has little to do with her. The pop star, known for her powerful lyrics and even stronger fanbase, has been reportedly subpoenaed to testify in a heated legal dispute between her longtime friend Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni over the film It Ends with Us.
So what’s Swift’s involvement in the movie? Pretty much none—aside from lending her song “My Tears Ricochet” to the soundtrack, something 19 other artists also did. And yet, she’s the only one being dragged into court.
A spokesperson for the singer was quick to respond, making it clear that Taylor “never set foot on set, had no part in the creative process, never saw a rough cut, and only watched the final film weeks after its release.” In short, her name may be in the credits, but that’s as far as her role goes.
Why, then, the subpoena? According to Swift’s team, it’s less about seeking truth and more about seeking attention. “This is about headlines, not substance,” the spokesperson said, calling the move an attempt to generate clickbait rather than clarity.
And she may not be the only celebrity name caught in the legal spotlight. Rumors suggest that Hugh Jackman could also be called to testify, thanks to his close friendship with the Lively–Swift–Reynolds circle. Others, however, have dismissed this as a distraction tactic, designed to draw focus away from the serious allegations aimed at Baldoni.
The legal battle began when Blake Lively accused Baldoni of inappropriate and harassing behavior during the film’s production. Baldoni fired back with a defamation lawsuit—and that’s where things got messy. He now claims that both Swift and Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, pressured him to approve script changes that aligned with Lively’s vision.
In one of the more theatrical sections of his lawsuit, Baldoni recounts a moment in the Reynolds-Swift penthouse, where Taylor allegedly praised the rewritten script—implying he should get on board. He also pointed to a text message where Lively described the revised version as “more fun,” adding, “even if Ryan and Taylor weren’t in the picture.” She then jokingly dubbed herself “Khaleesi” and referred to Swift and Reynolds as “her dragons.”
Between claims of fat-shaming, alleged bullying, and thinly veiled jabs at Deadpool & Wolverine, this trial is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile showdowns Hollywood has seen in years—even if Taylor Swift had no intention of playing a part in it.
